🌿 Previously in “Where Do I Go From Here”…

In Part 1, we began with a quiet ache: “Prayer feels empty—but isn’t.” We explored how prayer, when stripped of hype and performance, becomes communion—honest, reverent, and rooted in Christ.

But for many of us, that shift doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It begins with a painful awakening—realizing that what we called “faith” was often built on emotion, pressure, and spiritual confusion.

This part is about gently naming what happened. Not to shame, but to understand. Not to accuse, but to begin healing.

🌿 Part 2: Understanding What Happened

Leaving a Charismatic, NAR, or Word of Faith church can feel like waking up from a dream you didn’t know you were in. At first, everything feels blurry. You begin to notice things you never questioned before—emotional manipulation, prosperity promises, spiritual pressure dressed up as “faith.”

And quietly, the questions begin to surface:

  • Why are people still sick, even after all the declarations?
  • Why do the same people go forward for prayer week after week?
  • Why are faithful tithers still struggling to make ends meet?
  • Why didn’t my seed-sowing bring the breakthrough I was promised?
  • Why does it feel like God didn’t show up?

You start to wonder: Was that really biblical? Was that really God?

This isn’t about blaming anyone—not your leaders, not your church, and certainly not yourself. It’s about recognizing that God is opening your eyes. He’s gently leading you out of confusion and into truth.

Let Him lead. Rest in Him. Healing doesn’t come through hype—it comes through Christ.

🎭 1. The Hype That Felt Holy

In many Charismatic spaces, emotion is mistaken for God’s presence. The louder the music, the stronger the “anointing.” The more dramatic the sermon, the more “powerful” the move of God seems.

But Scripture never calls us to chase feelings. It calls us to seek truth.

“Sanctify them by the truth; Your Word is truth.” — John 17:17

God’s presence is not measured by goosebumps or excitement. It is found in His Word, His Spirit, and His faithfulness—even in silence.

🧠 2. Prophetic Words and Emotional Pressure

You may have heard phrases like:

  • “God told me to tell you…”

  • “I see a breakthrough coming…”

  • “Sow a seed and watch your harvest!”

These “prophetic words” often sound spiritual—but they can be vague, manipulative, and emotionally charged. They foster dependence on the speaker rather than on Scripture.

“Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:20–21

True prophecy aligns with God’s Word. It points to Christ, not to your career, finances, or personal success.

đź’¸ 3. The Prosperity Trap

One of the most damaging teachings is that giving money guarantees blessing. You may have been told:

  • “Sow into this word!”

  • “Your breakthrough depends on your seed!”

  • “God will multiply your offering!”

But God is not a vending machine. Giving is worship, not a transaction.

“Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have.” — Hebrews 13:5

God blesses us in many ways—but not because we paid for it. The greatest gift has already been given: Christ Himself.

🧱 4. Spiritual Abuse and Confusion

Some leaders use fear, guilt, or spiritual threats to control people:

  • “Don’t touch the Lord’s anointed.”

  • “If you leave this church, you’ll lose your covering.”

  • “You’re in rebellion if you question leadership.”

These are not biblical warnings—they are manipulations.

“I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” — John 10:11

Jesus doesn’t shame His sheep. He protects them. If you’ve been spiritually abused, confused, or silenced, please know: that was not Christ.

🛤️ 5. You’re Not Crazy. You’re Being Led.

If you’re asking hard questions, feeling disoriented, or grieving what you once believed—you’re not crazy. You’re being led.

God is opening your eyes. He’s calling you out of distortion and into truth.

“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32

This is not the end of your faith. It’s the beginning of something real.

🌸 A Gentle Invitation

In Part 3: “Where Do I Go From Here?”, we’ll explore how to rebuild—rooting our faith, prayer, and identity in Christ alone, free from fear, performance, or pressure.

It’s a tender, hopeful step forward: from deconstruction to renewal, from confusion to clarity, from striving to resting in grace.

You’re not walking this road alone. Christ Himself leads us out of distortion and into truth—one gentle step at a time. 🌿
