The Benefits of Studying Scripture
“Delighting in God’s Word is delighting in God Himself.”
Nobody ever outgrows Scripture; the book widens and deepens with our years. – Charles Spurgeon
The Bible is shallow enough for a child not to drown, yet deep enough for an elephant to swim. – Saint Augustine
Where one man reads the Bible, a hundred read you and me. – DL Moody 1
To study the Bible is to draw near to the living God. Scripture is not merely informative—it is divine revelation, breathed out by God and sufficient for all things pertaining to life and godliness (2 Tim. 3:16–17; 2 Pet. 1:3). Through it, we come to truly know the God who has made Himself known—not through emotion or speculation, but through His Word.
As Jeremiah declares, “Let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me…” (Jer. 9:24). This knowledge is not abstract—it is covenantal, personal, and transformative. In the pages of Scripture, we behold the glory of Christ, are conformed to His image, and are sanctified by truth (John 17:17; Rom. 12:2; 2 Cor. 3:18).
When we open our Bibles we enter holy ground. This is where God speaks, Christ is revealed, and the Holy Spirit works. It is in this sacred encounter that we are equipped for every good work (2 Tim 3:17)—to live, serve, and worship God to the glory of God alone. As we combine Scripture with prayer, we align our hearts with the will of God—a powerful combination through which God delights to answer prayer according to His perfect wisdom and purposes. “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us” (1 John 5:14).

Conclusion: The Treasure of God’s Word
The Bible is no ordinary book—it is the living and active Word of the living God (Heb. 4:12). In it, we find Christ, we hear the Father’s voice, and we are led by the Spirit. Every page points us to His glory and eqworuips us to live for Him.
When we neglect the Word (reading and studying) we starve our spirits. However, as we dig into Scripture, we feast on truth, strength, and hope that will never fail and we are becoming more and more equipped.
So take the time and open your Bible with expectation. Come hungry, humble and with purpose, knowing that God will graciously meet you in His Word and as you study the Word of Christ, Scripture unveils the glory of Christ, which is bright, holy, and transforming.
2 Cor 3:18: And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
And in that “beholding” we are changed – Glory to God!
