ENTERTAINMENT IN THE CHURCH – part one

Preach the Gospel to bring true repentance, rather than entertain to draw crowds!!

A problem in many churches today is that they are trying to draw the world into the church by offering things that appeal to the world. The world/unsaved then land up being entertained rather than being brought to repentance and salvation through the inerrant Word of God.

The sad part is that many think they are going to heaven because they have said the “sinners prayer” and their pastor has told them that they are saved, but sadly no regeneration has taken place in their hearts.

Beloved we need to get back to pursuing holy living… pursuing Christ (see Phil 3:12-16)

Colossians 3:5
“So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.”

1 Peter 2:11
“Dear friends, I warn you as ‘temporary residents and foreigners’ to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.”

“A little history
The church growth movement owes much to Robert Schuller. He claims to be its founder, at least in this country, by being the first to launch the marketing approach in Christianity. ‘The secret of winning unchurched people into the church’, Schuller said, ‘is really quite simple.

  1. Find out what would impress the nonchurched in your community [then give it to them].’
  2. Believing that expository preaching is a waste of time, and borrowing the philosophy of his mentor Norman Vincent Peale, Schuller ‘began to communicate a message of Christianity that focused on meeting the emotional and psychological needs of people.’
  3. Schuller laid out his philosophy of ministry in his 1982 book Self Esteem: The New Reformation, in which he called for a radical shift in the church’s focus from God to human needs.” (This Little Church went to Market Quote shared via Kindle:)

Churches have now started “Fire Tunnels” and if you are anything like me, you would need to go to Google to find out exactly what a fire tunnel is. As with all entertainment, we would hate for people to get bored with “same old, same old”, so new ideas are constantly being introduced into the churches to ensure that people remain entertained.

And as the churches find all these different types of entertainment, they land up providing more entertainment for the world, than the world itself provides. Church has become fun and a place of entertainment rather than a place of worship.
