7 BENEFITS OF MEMORIZING SCRIPTURE

There are so many benefits that we can reap from memorizing Scripture and most importantly it brings spiritual growth and the Holy Spirit bring Scripture to your remembrance which in turn causes us to grow in sanctification.

I love memorizing verses and when I am going off to sleep at night I can recite Scriptures to keep them fresh in my mind. It is also great when you in a queue or waiting for someone, to be able to go over and meditate on Scripture that you have memorized.

Ephesians 1:3-14 is the longest verse in Greek, in the Bible and I made it my mission to learn it. These 11 verses are so amazing as you meditate on them and a great reminder of just how blessed we are. Whenever I had spare time, I would go over the verses in my mind and refreshing it in my memory.

Over the years, I have purposefully memorized Scripture and below are 7 benefits that I have realized from this practice.

1. The Bible tells us to memorize Scripture.

Deut 11:18 ESV “You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

Joshua 1:8 ESV

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

In order to lay Scripture up in our heart and soul, we need to have the Word in front of us all the time. How better to do this than by memorizing and meditating on Scripture.

In Josh 1:8 we see, “The Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth…”, in other words, don’t stop saying or speaking the Scriptures. By doing this you will know how please God, and He in turn will bless you.
