The Attributes of God

The attributes of God bring us into a greater understanding and knowledge of Who God is and enables believers to then relate to God according to His character.  These attributes also serve to guide believers in their moral and spiritual lives.

Through diligent study and contemplation of these attributes, may your relationship with God flourish, and may your understanding of Him deepen.

God

Did you know that as believers, we can read Scripture and know Scripture without really knowing who God is?

We read in John 17:2-3 Jesus’ prayer for the church:

“as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

God wants us to know Him, not just His promises. He wants us to know His very character so that we can trust Him and depend on Him no matter our circumstances or challenges.

GOD IS INFINITE

God is infinite (endless, illimitable, immeasurable, limitless), He is self-existing and without origin.

There is no one and nothing that created God. He is, He was, and He always will be. He existed before the heavens and the earth were created and He will always be. There is no end to God.

John 17:5 The High Priestly Prayer : 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

Colossians 1:7 And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Exod 3:14 KJV And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

I AM (Haya (Heb)): to be or become 

The RVIC Bible footnote on Exod 3:14 says the following:

  • I AM BECAUSE I AM
  • or, I AM WHO AM 
  • or, I WILL BE WHAT I WILL TO BE.
  • or, I CONTINUE TO BE THE ONE
  • CONTINUING EVERMORE.

PRAYER (You can pray this for your loved ones, your pastors and your church as well)

Dear Lord God, I come to You in the precious name of Jesus, and I praise you and give you all the glory, as my infinite, limitless, self-existing God and Father. I glorify you as the Great I AM. Help me to always be sensitive and obedient to Your voice. Help me to always be aware of the wonder of who You are.

Father, you are my strength, You are my song. There is nothing too difficult for You. Help me not to limit You in my life, but to focus on the fact that You are LIMITLESS. As I take time to worship the wonder of Who You are today, I thank You Father that You take care of all those things that have been troubling me and weighing me down, and demanded my attention. I give all my cares and burdens to You today and I put my focus and attention on You alone. Amen!
